SEMESTER

FS25

For this assignment I chose to explore the acoustic properties of the Lecture Hall E1 in HIL and the Entrance of the HCP Building.

Lecture Hall E1

What attracted me to this location was the round shape of the aula. Instead of describing a space acoustically by showing its length, one can do it by localising the source of the noise in the left-right axes.

The sound that I recorded can be described as clear, warm and full.

Entrance of the HCP Building

I chose this location because of the interesting composition of roof and walls – this is an elongated space with a low roof and no walls. This situation is not so commonly seen and it may produce interesting sound effects.

In comparison to the previous location here the sound feels empty. The sound creates a sense of a big open space, but at the same time it feels a bit dull due to the low ceiling. This opposition is not commonly observed and thus creates an uneasy feeling in the listener.
