Assignment 1: Blindfolded Walk
My blind walk experience began at the GTA exit area and ended at the front of the HPH building. At first I felt quite helpless, or rather disoriented without my vision. During my walk I thought that I had already covered larger distances, but according to feedback from my group partner it was only a few meters. I had to concentrate in my sense of hearing during this experiment which was really challenging in the beginning. I noticed noises that I had never cared before and sometimes I couldn’t really understand from where the noise was coming from. I also noticed the ground I was walking on more intensely.
Assignment 2: Soundscape
I’m standing under one of the HCL’s finger buildings. To my right I can hear two workers repairing a stone floor slab. The sounds of work drown out the other background noises and the reverberation also makes the noises more intense. People keep walking past me and their conversations can be easily perceived, but the further away they are, the less precise the conversations become. There are cooling systems in the distance that can be constantly heard in the background.
